Independence Day

While I’ve always hated being the bearer of bad news, this morning Chelsie, Selina, and I were faced with the daunting task of conveying some heartbreaking information to the rest of the team today. Dressed all in black, we solemnly marched next door. Upon entering the room, we were greeted by cheerful faces (We finally have internet! And it’s the Fourth of July! Freedom!), though we knew they wouldn’t be staying that way for too long.

“We have some bad news to tell you.”
“It’s a good thing you’re sitting down.”
(Prolonged silence.)
“Yesterday morning, Andy Griffith passed away.”
“In commemoration of our tea time with Ahmed Kathrada, Andy Griffith’s passing, and the Fourth of July, we bring you Whitney Houston’s Super Bowl rendition of the National Anthem.”

Like true patriots, everyone rose from their respective places on the couch, and we joined both hands and Whitney in a raucous round of our country’s anthem.

May God bless America (and Andy Griffith) today and all days.
