Origins Centre & Wits Art Museum

We started the morning with a re-cap of the past couple days (memory, storytelling, art for social change) and a look at some William Kentridge videos. Then it was back in the van for a quick drive over to the Origins Centre.  Under the amazingly engaging guidance of Brian Mogaki, we learned about the plant life, archeology, genetics, history, culture, and spiritual life of early South African humanity.

After lunch (and some 80’s music videos), we wandered over to the Wits Art Museum where curator Fiona Rankin-Smith showed us some interactive video installations.  Education curator, Leigh joined us for a spin through the storeroom where they are updating their collections areas.  IMG_0212

After a long day, we crammed in a bit more printmaking with some photo transfers!  Nothing like ending the day with a little art-making.

  1. Terrific blog…now the real challenge, watching for taxi hand signs across SA and how they vary from place to place.
